The National Taiwan Museum kicked off an exhibition exploring the architecture of railway stations June 2 at its Railway Department Park in Taipei City.

Running until March 1, 2026, “Let’s Go to the Station” is geared toward schoolchildren. The exhibit details the design of station buildings through images, text, video and 3 interactive games, as well as 38 creative workshops with exclusive sessions for preschoolers, elementary and junior high school students.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture Li Yuan shared that he lived next to a railway station in his childhood. He said he hoped to boost children’s access to culture, and encouraged students in attendance to visit the Vision Pavilion of the National Children’s Future Museum launched last month, among others.

Following his remarks, NTM Director Chen Teng-chin said the exhibit aims to meet children at their level, helping them understand the design intentions that factor into everything from arrangements for ticket gates to toilet locations and foot traffic routes through stations.

Chen Shih-pen, chief engineer of Taiwan Railway Corp., Ltd, said that Taiwan currently boasts 241 railway stations. He noted that their architecture ranges from wooden Qing dynasty (1644-1911) structures to innovative modern designs that incorporate iconic local elements. (YCH-E)
